Update: 'Little church that could' vandalized

The executive director of a multimillion dollar project being developed by Concordia Lutheran Church on Chicago’s North Side became somewhat of a sleuth last spring.

Brenda Swartz helped identify vandals who had spray-painted a nickname and gang graffiti on a wall in the construction site the weekend of April 24-25. She searched for the nickname on www.myspace.com, and found names and addresses of area youth, which she provided to Chicago police, who eventually made arrests.

Concordia Avondale Campus will include a child-care center and educational and recreational activities for teens, parents and the elderly (March, "The little church that could"). The irony of the vandalism, Swartz told the Chicago Sun Times, is that the center will reach out to those like the teens accused of the crime.
