Some analysts of modern culture suggest that
repentance and public confession have virtually no meaning. Even though
we live in an age of massive self-deception, both repentance and public
confession are marks of the Christian life and part of our Lenten
disciplines.
A culture of deception will have no place
for public confession, however, if blaming supersedes responsibility
and “spinning” replaces truth-telling.
