This ain't your mother's altar guild

The altar guild at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Mo., isn't a high-tea, white-glove group.

Although members perform the same duties as their mothers and grandmothers before them, they do it with a different mix of people and a lighter touch than that of altar guilds past. For instance:

  • They've used ladders, Dustbusters and vacuum cleaners in their Advent hanging of the greens service.
