Advent words abound. Waiting. Darkness. Reflection. Expectation. Wonder. Preparation. Longing. Anticipation. Promise.
We
who live in the U.S. aren’t good at waiting. We’re not always so good
at reflection either. We’re accustomed to instant gratification,
constant stimulation and action. Each Advent offers another chance to
learn something about waiting, wonder and darkness. Sssshhh, quiet
yourself. Something amazing is coming. Don’t be so busy that you’ll
miss it.
Have you ever watched a child waiting for something
wonderful? Standing on tiptoe, peering up at the sky or out the window,
perhaps? The sense of anticipation and wonder shines brightly on the
child’s face.
