I'm crying sad and joyful tears after reading "I belong" (February, page 18) by Janet Blair, sister in Christ, Lutheran, lesbian. As a 21-year-old Lutheran youth who served as a synodical/regional officer in both the Lutheran Youth Organization and the Lutheran Student Movement U.S.A., as a young man who intends to pursue ordination as a pastor in the ELCA, as a young queer, I thank you.

"Gay and lesbian Christians" is an oxymoron. 1 John 3:6 says, "No one
who lives in him keeps sinning. No one who continues to sin has either
seen him or known him." We certainly should welcome sinners of any ilk
to our congregations. Thieves, alcoholics, murderers, homosexuals,
adulterers and so on must be our outreach. Outreach to make people
comfortable with their sin? No. Rather, to tell them of the changing
power of God's plan of salvation through the personal acceptance of
Jesus.
