Altos in pink. Sopranos in red. Tenors in cantelope. Men in striped shirts of all of those colors. With sounds as smooth and refreshing as their sherbet-colored clothing, the Detroit Lutheran Coalition Mass Choir rocked the sanctuary during Tuesday’s communion service, bringing assembly-goers to their feet, swaying and clapping. Thanks to funding from the Southeast Michigan Synod, 55 choir members and musicians from seven Detroit congregations drove or flew to Orlando, Fla., to provide assembly music. From Mama Terry, 78, to Desare, 14, choir members began rehearsing in March, said Gayle Hill, who, with Roxie Wilson, directs the choir.
