Rooted in the desert

Lutherans and Muslims care for the poor in Mauritania.

After a period of severe drought 30 years ago, the Mauritanian government launched an emergency call for help to fight sand encroachment. The Lutheran World Federation answered that call and helped create the Nouakchott Green Belt project. Today Green Belt trees are still firmly rooted in the desert, and the LWF continues to be a presence in this northwest African nation.
