AIDS in Africa
(PDF download)
In the small town of Mbale in eastern Uganda, a nurse and volunteer from an AIDS clinic supported by the Lutheran World Federation make home visits to patients who are very sick, including this 16-year-old girl (center) suffering from the "slim" disease — the African expression for someone suffering from AIDS. Through the clinic, patients who are unable to pay for medicine can receive it at no cost.
