Psalms in our words

The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich., focuses on the study and renewal of worship practices. “Voicing God’s Psalms,” a recent project, includes a book and audio CD package by Calvin Seerveld (Eerdmans Publishing Co., www.eerdmans.org) who did his own translations into contemporary English.

Professor emeritus of philosophical aesthetics at the Institute for Christian Studies, Toronto, Seerveld translated psalms into contemporary English and grouped them and related biblical passages into nine diverse categories. He introduces each with a helpful explanation of its history and meaning in the biblical context.
