The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Spotlight on:

Who? Allison Sims, a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Walhalla, S.C.

What did she do? Allison raised $95 for Oconee A.I.D. (Assistance, Information and Direction), an organization that provides emergency assistance, such as food, to Oconee County residents who are in crisis situations.

How? For her 11th birthday party, Allison told her friends that instead of presents, "please collect money for Oconee A.I.D," a group her congregation and its Lutheran Men in Mission supports.

Why? Allison said she didn't need presents, and her party turned out to be "a blast!" And by helping others, she also strengthened her faith.
