Lent and spring can be a time of discovery. It's a time to learn, help others and spread the message of the cross.
During
Lent 2004, youth at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Evansville,
Ind., learned about the new life that Jesus brings. The children
watched caterpillars go from crawlers to Monarch butterflies.
But
it wasn't all about watching — it was about doing. Remembering that
Christ gave so much for us, the children contributed money to a
"butterfly bottle" each week.
On Good Friday, they witnessed
butterflies emerge from their cocoons. Then the week after Easter they
held Sunday school at a nature preserve, where they set the Monarchs
free and donated $113.50 to buy plants for a butterfly garden.
