One of our child's sponsors has dropped out of
the picture since the baptism. Is it OK to choose another one? How
would we go about it?
It's not only
OK, but I commend you for wanting to provide the best spiritual support
for your child that you can. Sponsors or godparents who take seriously
their charge to do everything possible to help a godchild grow up in
the faith with consistent remembrances and encouragements often make a
significant impact.
We invite family, godparents and mentors to
join in the laying on of hands on confirmation Sunday. I'm always
amazed at how many sponsors are present — delighted to affirm again
their support of this child of God. And the confirmands appreciate
their presence too.
