Recovering from genocide

Although poor and ripped by war, a new Lutheran church takes root in Rwanda

Singing floats through the open door of Kanombe Lutheran Church in Kigali, Rwanda. On a lush hillside, the modest brick building overlooks the capital of this East African country. In the sanctuary, survivors of the 1994 genocide that ripped Rwanda apart — young and old, Hutu and Tutsi — sit side-by-side worshiping God.
