Veterinarian Judy Gilbertson has advice for cat owners who provide Easter lilies for their congregations: "Bring the plants to shut-ins. Dont take them home. Theyre poisonous for cats." All parts of lily plants are toxic, she explains, and ingestion of even one leaf can be deadly. The toxins cause kidney failure.
Gilbertson, who has four cats, is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. For more information, check the Animal Poison Control Center at www.aspca.org.
