Ottilie W. Lundgren, 94, a woman described by the church secretary as "a real sweetheart," was remembered by family and friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oxford, Conn., over Thanksgiving weekend.
Lundgren was the fifth person in the nation to die from inhalation anthrax. A member of Immanuel since 1964, she was a familiar face at women's gatherings, potlucks, bake sales and rummage sales, said Cathy LaFrance, the church secretary.
Amid their grieving and goodbyes, family, friends and neighbors also had to cope with the barrage of media that descended on their rural town of 9,800 and their church, where about 100 worship weekly.
