I'm a middle-aged man who worked in a high-stress medical environment that I grew tired of — and left several years ago to be a stay-at-home dad. That change made me happy, but I still couldn't calm the waters in my heart. Being a fossil collector, I decided to accept a longstanding invitation from a friend in Utah to spend two weeks exploring the deserts in that state. I thought the time away would settle me down. What it did was change my life.
I had never experienced a desert. To describe the desert requires an ability to describe the abstract. The sights and sounds are foreign. Beauty is redefined.
