Humor drives band's success

After listening to wacky songs by Craig Simon and Norb Stracker, such as "Pick Your Nose" and "Chipmunk Blues," it's hard to imagine that these men met at church.

But in 1993, while musically accompanying a contemporary liturgy at St. James Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Mo., Simon and Stracker began discussing their mutual love for folk music and their shared offbeat sense of humor.

A few years later, with the addition of Fred Canning, Simply Weasels was born. It's possible no one outside of Kansas City would ever have heard of the trio, except for an off-the-cuff decision by Stracker to send their song "Loose Wheel" to the show Car Talk, heard weekly on National Public Radio.
