Judging the call process

"We were overwhelmed with the number of candidates we received."

"Why are we limited to one candidate at a time?"

"The synod should do a better job of screening candidates."

"The synod shouldn't be involved at all."

Sound familiar? When it comes to the way we call pastors, ELCA members, call committees, clergy and synods are all over the map — in experiences and opinions, according to the 280 respondents to The Lutheran's fall questionnaire. Although not a scientific poll, the results suggest that those in the call process can count on at least one thing: stress.
