Sowing seeds of peace

We are sowers of seed. Each of us. We can't choose not to do it. It's an inescapable element of being human and living in relationship with others.

Every word we speak, every action and expression, every glance and raised eyebrow, every question and response — everything — casts seeds into the swirling winds of human community.

Once I thought that most of those seeds perished and were carried to forgetfulness in the constant wind of words we exchange in daily discourse. Now I suspect that more seeds than I'd thought root themselves in our souls, relationships and communities. They grow into some kind of fruit, not all of it sweet.
