'Left reeling' riles readers

Many take Walter Wink to task

The November issue was a wonderful response to Sept. 11, with the notable exception of the quote from William Sloan Coffin in Walter Wink's article, "Left reeling" (November, page 18). Coffin's comments from the religious left are just as objectionable as those from the religious right (Jerry Falwell). Both extremes want to put all events in boxes that support their fringe beliefs. They falsely imply that events occurred because of American flaws, whether cultural or political. The extreme left and extreme right continue to act just alike.
