Stories of pain inflicted by the church are as old as the church. I was struck by one in "Lite Side" (The Lutheran, October 2001). A grandmother quotes her grandson, 4-year-old Wade: "I don't like going to church. You just sit there for an hour and when you finally get to go up front, only the grown-ups get snacks."
