A prayer shawl rests on the back of my office chair, a gift from Bette Shellhorn, who was featured in The Lutheran's December 2001 issue (page 36). Bette's congregation, All Saints Lutheran, Mason, Mich., knits and distributes the shawls to the sick, the struggling and others in need of special blessing — like me.
But the congregation's ministry is blessing many more. By the third week of January, Bette had received more than 500 inquiries about how to make the prayer shawls and start such a ministry. E-mail requests continue to roll in at five to 10 a day.
