We've heard much in the ELCA about a clergy shortage. We're all asked, pastors especially, to direct young people toward church professions. But I've been wondering: Why should we encourage young people to undertake a career that subjects them to the "terrorists" of the church? More pastors than you know think of this. Pastors even joke about it when times are good.
I'm a pastor, and I'm married to a pastor. I've been ordained only five years. I recall telling my college roommate (a pastor's child) that I was considering the ordained ministry only to be told I was crazy: "You don't want to be a pastor. Do you know all the crap that happens to pastors?"
