Conflict about the Middle East

Readers are conflicted over the situation and our reporting

Editor David Miller's trip to Palestine (February, page 48) must have been heartbreaking. I wish it would be possible for you to advocate ELCA and individual support of the many U.S. Jewish groups that are helping the Palestinians and that oppose militant Zionism. As some of the Jews say: "Many Jews, especially the Zionists, have made the state of Israel their God." The Palestinian leaders haven't always been wise, but could anyone have dealt with the terrorism and determination of the Zionists under the British mandate when they used extreme actions? I was a short-term missionary in Tehran and Beirut from 1944 to 1947 and observed firsthand the problem at that stage.
