ELCA bishops' letter responds to crisis

Citing "a new urgency ... to respond to the cries that have been raised," the ELCA Conference of Bishops, meeting in Chicago, Oct. 4-9, issued a letter of response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The bishops' letter, addressed to all on ELCA ministry rosters, expressed thanks "for their ministry and the ways in which these baptized servants have joined with many others to embody God's compassion and hope."
