Q: I've loved the hymn The Old Rugged Cross most of my 85 years. I was shocked to realize that it's not in our Lutheran hymnal. A friend said we don't use this hymn because of the line "till my trophies at last I lay down" since this may lead us to pride and to placing our accomplishments before god. Is this so?
Q: Is it inappropriate for an usher to acknowledge gifts placed in the offering plate with a "thank you"?
