Too much announcing

Information-giving interrupts worship

Q: A friend who attended church with me observed, "You spend more time on announcements than on praying." We allow announcements from the floor. The pastor doesn't want to offend anyone, so this practice continues to interrupt worship flow. How can it be curtailed?

Q: The confession says: "Most merciful God, we confess that we are in bondage to sin ...." Wouldn't it be more meaningful to say, "I confess that I am in bondage to sin and cannot free myself ..."? My sins are between God and me, and I have a need for personal forgiveness. After all, the Apostle's Creed says: "I believe in God the Father Almighty ...."
