Ho, celebrate the mission!

Many find a place at the global table in Hickey, N.C., & Minneapolis

As Stephen Bouman stepped to the microphone to begin this summer's Global Mission Events he deadpanned, “My wife said to remember it's not ‘Yo,’ it's ‘Ho, everyone who thirsts ....’”

Bouman, the bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod, where "Yo" might very well be heard in greeting, proceeded to quote the event's theme from Isaiah 55: "Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat!"

"Every Sunday since Sept. 11 we've been hungering and thirsting — not just in New York but everywhere," Bouman said, daring the crowd to "live God's promise." More than 3,000 adults, youth and children gathered around the theme "Dare to Live God's Promise" July 18-21 at Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, N.C., and July 25-28 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
