Lay missionaries launch Ohio congregation

A mission congregation in the fast-growing Toledo suburb of Perrysburg, Ohio, was launched in February. Led by lay missionaries, the South Perrysburg Mission will identify unchurched families within its parish boundaries and invite them into a small-group ministry first operating out of member homes.

Denise Welty and Ron McCoy from Lutheran Church of the Master, Perrysburg, head up the mission. They were trained at a mission developers conference. Other lay members from Master and Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, will assist with the initial home-calling and canvassing. The project, funded by the Northwestern Ohio Synod's Mission Partners program, is supervised by Pastor Dennis Hartman of Master.
