Tony Schrader bumped into Augsburg College's motto — "Education for Service" — long before he registered at the ELCA school in Minneapolis. As a boy, he encountered Augsburg students volunteering in his Cedar-Riverside neighborhood through Augsburg's 10-year-old community service-learning program.
Now Schrader is the volunteer. A sophomore majoring in social work, he has volunteered at a computer lab program for youth at nearby Powderhorn Park and at St. Martin's Table, an ecumenical bookstore and cafe near campus. In addition to running track for Augsburg, he coaches a youth track program.
