The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Jayne Hopwood, mother, St. Paul, Jefferson, Md.

My 21-year-old son, Nathan, a lance corporal and air traffic controller has been deployed for a dangerous mission. I take comfort that Nathan is a highly trained individual, with an important position with the corps. He is also a Christian with a strong love for God, country and family.

He is doing what he wants to do. I put my trust in God and my son. I know that what will be, will be. If anything were to happen to my son, it would have been for an important reason and he would have died doing what he loved most, serving God, his country and making his family proud.
