Dancing to a different beat

Young artists enhance worship for Florida congregation

The dancers might have had the typical opening day jitters, but their performance went on without a hitch. The "audience" gave them a thumbs-up review.

The young peformers, ages 7 to 14, are members of the liturgical dance class at Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg, Fla. They performed for the first time last summer.

Liturgical dance, says class director Jackie Rae Voorhees, is movement that interprets Scripture. The group's interpretation of the Lord's Prayer was performed when the congregation normally says the prayer.
