Bombs aren't falling on Baghdad, but thousands, some from our families and churches, await orders that could send them into the desert or even to death. No matter our convictions about the justice of this war, we pray that the order won't come, that war won't prove inevitable.
But we don't know. Deep darkness shrouds even the near future, and no amount of military might or duct tape can seal out anxiety and sadness. As this reaches you, tanks may be motoring across the Iraqi desert as U.S. — and Iraqi — families pray for the safety of their beloved and consolation for those who receive the worst news of all.
