Did we expel the catechism?

Luther's summaries aren't kid stuff, but the stuff of life

Is it now acceptable practice not to use Martin Luther's large or small catechisms as the basis for confirmation study?

The Bible and both catechisms continue to be central to confirmation ministry. We should study t hem not j ust once but throughout our lives. Speaking of the catechism, Luther said, "For as long as we live we shall have enough to preach and learn on the subject of faith."

The Small Catechism was written for use in one's home with children. The Large Catechism provides adults intriguing material for deepening their faith to meet the challenges of today's world.
