November 1998 Letters: Violent society

Are we failing our children?

I often enjoy your magazine, but this time you have outdone yourself! The theme of violence ran through the September issue. Violence expressed by lonely male teens who are crying for help and no one hears them (pages 8, and 12). Violence shown on TV and what it does to children (page 26). And finally, the gift of the cross in the Coventry Cathedral in England during the violence of World War II (page 29). We are failing our children by ignoring their pain and saturating them with violence in the media. We must forgive those who commit the violence and then go on to help the victims. God help us all if we do not.
