Dwindling membership and finances. That's what my congregation, Holy Trinity Lutheran on Chicago's North Side, faced four years ago. Many questioned the future viability of the tiny congregation. Today worship attendance has more than tripled to 109. The congregation now confronts the happy challenges of crowded worship and Sunday school classroom space.
What happened in those intervening years was neither miracle nor magic but the culmination of a learning process about how to engage a unique urban constituency.
