Imprisoned ELCA pastor needs the church's prayers, support

Naw-Karl Mua wasn't in the crowd with other parents to see his son Somboune graduate from high school in June. His daughter Magnolia was elected senior class president about the same time. He missed that too.

But as much as his wife, Sue, and their four children miss him, neither they nor his congregation, Light of Life Lutheran, St. Paul, Minn., can miss the power of the witness that has landed the ELCA pastor in a Lao jail.

Mua opened himself to the invitation of the Spirit of Christ to care for more than personal comfort or safety. What it got him was a 2 1/2 hour communist show trial that on June 30 convicted him of conspiring to kill a Lao security officer.
