Jesus made it stunningly clear that we couldn't have it both ways when he said, "You serve God and wealth" (Luke 16:13).
He alarmed his disciples, telling them, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." If it is that hard, they wondered, how can any of us make it? They asked Jesus, "Then who can be saved?" He answered, "What is impossible for mortals is possible for God" (Luke 18:25-27).
And there lies our hope.
