Kuni Gope used to dream of walking into a hotel near her village for a snack and cup of tea, as she saw wealthier people doing. Today she can — all because of a simple water pump.
Gope lives in Bagaldih, in Jharkhand, one of the poorest states in eastern India. A three-year agriculture project funded by Lutheran World Relief, which receives support from the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, helped Bagaldih improve its living standard. It's been four years since that project ended, and villagers still reap its benefits.
