'Peacemakers stir things up'

From land mines to poverty, ELCA women grapple with ways to heal the world

To be a peacemaker is risky business," April Ulring Larson told opening worship participants at the Women of the ELCA Triennial Convention in Minneapolis. Larson is bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America LaCrosse Area Synod.

"Peacemakers often aren't compromisers. Peacemakers stir things up," she said.

From July 11-14 almost 6,000 women studied the Bible and worshiped under the theme, "Proclaim God's Peace." They visited social-service projects in a "convention without walls," took part in workshops on 184 topics, visited exhibits and attended business sessions.
