On the eve of their grandson's baptism, Tim and Mary Carlton Lull sketched out their hopes for the church of the future. Doing so, they were practicing a discipline embraced by Christians in many times and places. It's the discipline of placing confident trust in all that God will continue to do in our lives and world. Faith in a gracious God who governs our lives in times of joy and sorrow fired their imagination.
The list they crafted began: We hope the church of the future reads the Bible with delight. As Lutheran Christians there is no better beginning for a litany of hope. We understand the Bible to be a living word, accessible to adults and children, laity and scholars.
