Where watching TV can get you

'48 Hours' leads Lutheran to Possum Trot, Texas

Some people might chalk it up to luck that Kim Cabodi — who rarely watches TV — happened to catch a story on 48 Hours about a small, Pentecostal church in a low-income neighborhood of Possum Trot, Texas. But Cabodi is certain he was meant to see the program.

What he and millions of others who tuned in witnessed was the story of Bennett Chapel and its pastor, W.C. Martin, and his wife Donna.

It was Donna Martin who, when praying for solace from the pain she felt after her mother died, said she heard God tell her to offer love and a home to unwanted children. She told her husband, who urged the Bennett Chapel congregation to follow their lead and adopt children who had been abused or neglected.
