How can I give?

My congregation refuses to raise benevolence

My congregation voted once more not to raise benevolence giving. It also decided to have no special offerings. Is this right? How do I give to the ministries I support?

All our offerings are given to God as tokens of ourselves. They are used to sustain the ministry of the gospel in congregations and — as "benevolence" — the work of your synod and the larger church. Congregations often rely on past giving records to establish budgets. This is a mistake. Such decisions need to be reached through prayer, asking God to challenge the congregation. When we focus on the abundance God provides, our giving usually increases.
