When the ELCA pledged to be in the city for good at last year's Churchwide Assembly, it wasn't just small talk.
"In the City for Good," the 10-year initiative to revitalize ministry in urban communities that was approved by the 1997 assembly, received a $1 million grant from Lutheran Brotherhood. The money, along with funds from the ELCA Division for Outreach and Vision for Mission Fund, will be used to award $500,000 in grants annually to help congregations adapt and transform their neighborhoods.
