Are conflicts between lead pastors and
congregations sometimes due to adopting the "chief executive officer"
model? What are better alternatives to top-down management style?

depends on how leaders lead. Pastors can lead in ways that claim all
the gifts of God's people, church members and staff. Recently big
businesses have sought CEOs who encourage respectful teamwork rather
than those with authoritarian "boss" styles.
