Several members of the ELCA Conference of Bishops asked during their Oct. 1-6 gathering in Chicago about inserting a "conscience clause" in the Episcopal "full communion" proposal that would continue the present ELCA constitutional exception that allows bishops to authorize others to ordain pastors.
