ELCA members who have disabilities seek active roles in the church

Fifty-four million American children, men and women — or one in five of us — have a disability. Most can't be active in their congregations because of physical and attitudinal barriers excluding them from worship.

"There are no barriers to God's love. How dare we permit barriers in God's house?" says Ginny Thornburgh, director of the religion and disability program of the National Organization on Disability in Washington, D.C.
