Liberians struggle to stay afloat

Amid heavy rains in May, tens of thousands of Liberians sought shelter after continuing clashes between government and rebel troops forced families from their homes and damaged Phebe Hospital, a Lutheran facility. In Jahtondo (above), the rainy season makes it difficult to construct shelters for the displaced, most of whom are women and children. The Lutheran Church in Liberia and the Lutheran World Federation are providing aid and temporary shelter.
