Lutherans in Colorado and Arizona are involved in the wildfires as victims and volunteers.
Colorado: At least 17 families from Christ the King Lutheran, Durango, were evacuated, and the congregation is still trying to locate some members, says Darin Johnson, pastor. Other members housed evacuees from the congregation and community. "It's a time like this that you find out what a congregation is made of .... The response has been gratifying," says Johnson, who volunteers at the Fire Information Center.
