PBS turns its cameras on caregivers across America for a special report on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 9-11p.m., EDT. And Thou Shalt Honor focuses on people who daily tend to the needs of elderly, ill and disabled family members and friends.
Lois D. Knutson, visitation pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Montevideo, Minn., is among those interviewed about the concerns, stresses and spiritual needs of such caregivers.
The film explores long-term caregiving as an issue of staggering proportions. An estimated 30 million men and women currently provide individual care for the elderly, ill and disabled. The program has a Web resource, www.thoushalthonor.org, and will offer a book, The Caregiver's Companion.
